It’s January 19th. Do you even remember what you said you were going to do this year? Or has it already started to fade, slipping into the background like every other year? Think back to the end of December. You were reflecting, weren’t you? Judging yourself on how the past year went. What you accomplished—or maybe what you didn’t. You were analyzing, questioning, trying to piece together whether the year had meant anything at all.
And then, in those final days of the year, you made a decision. You set goals. You thought hard about where you wanted to be by the end of this year. You pictured yourself finally getting in shape, landing that promotion, starting that passion project, or maybe just feeling more confident and in control of your life. For a moment, it felt clear, urgent, and deeply important. December 31st was full of conviction.
But now it’s January 19th, and all of that? It’s fuzzy. You’ve stopped thinking about it. Maybe you’re scrolling endlessly on your phone again, skipping the workouts, or convincing yourself you’ll start fresh next week—just like last year. What happened to the promises you made to yourself? Where did all that clarity go?
Here’s the thing: it’s not that the goals weren’t important. They were. It’s just that you’ve let life get in the way. You’ve allowed the noise of everyday distractions to drown out the focus you had at the start of the year. And now, those resolutions—the ones you swore you’d stick to—are starting to feel like a distant memory.
You need to remember this: those goals you set weren’t a whim. You thought about them for a reason. You wanted something to change because you knew, deep down, that staying the same wasn’t an option. But change doesn’t happen just because you wanted it on
December 31st. It happens when you keep showing up, even when the excitement fades.
So, here’s the challenge. Today, right now, bring those goals back into focus. Don’t let them slip away just because they’ve started to feel inconvenient. Revisit what you wanted for yourself. Write it down. Say it out loud. Take one action—however small—that brings you closer to it. Do it because you owe it to yourself not to forget. Not to let another year slip by.
Do you remember your New Year’s resolution? If you don’t, it’s time to dig it up. If you do, it’s time to act. December 31st will come again, and when it does, you’ll want to look back knowing you didn’t let January 19th be the day you gave up.
